Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions:

What Is S.K.A.T.E.?   An academic achievement program -- which stands for Skaters Keep Achieving Through Education. It is designed to encourage student athletes to maintain good grades and study habits while participating in youth hockey and to reward them for good performance.

Who Can Participate In S.K.A.T.E.? This program is available to all youth hockey organizations. So, in order for an individual players to participate, the youth hockey organization must first be registered.

How Can Our Youth Hockey Organization Get Involved? It's easy! Just request an Association Registration Form for the current season. The fee structure is based upon the size of the youth hockey organization and the cost-per-player generally works out to be less than $1 per person.  For more information, please contact Assistant Director Sandie Sullivan at 612-840-9793.

What Are The General Qualifications? A cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 (on a 4 point scale) or above during the academic period (s) which coincide with the youth hockey season.   Qualification confirmations for the program are done at the local association level through a SKATE Coordinator.

How Can Youth Hockey Parents Get Involved?  Most importantly, continue to remind young players about the importance of academic performance. We like to say that the sport of hockey is not necessarily a destination in life ... but a vehicle to learn how to become a more complete person. At the local level, volunteers are always helpful in organizing the S.K.A.T.E. program at the team level.
